crazy good week. started the night with some silliness that’s taking the country by storm. did our own version of the interlude dance check it…

Big Idea: Life in 6 Words: Wk 1 – GOD. Take away point: God created us to be with Him. Great conversation started by Greg Stier and Jason Petty (Propaganda) via the video series. we started out showing the GOSPEL in 4 minutes. (our study is based on a new curriculum from our pals at Dare2Share – check it out here.) It got another roaring round of applause like last week.

Students were engaged and was a good foundation to the beginning of this 6 week GOSPEL journey. One cool thing is we’ll be learning some theological terms during this series…this week it was immanence…

that God is not only the maker and giver of life, but that He is always with us. God remains active and engaged in His creation (and our lives!)

great conversations in small groups. the final take home thoughts…Because God is with us…I can know who I am…which impacts how I see the world and how i act and react in my life.

the big idea this week…Being Present. With the news of the shootings in Chardon the desire was to build on the stark reality of another tragedy on a school campus. Pastor Tom took two students, Devin and Alex to witness the prayer vigil first hand. The video posted shares a little of the experience. The biggest take away from the time in Chardon was comments from Gov. John Kasich. In fact the Gov. called it his gift to the students and families present at Chardon’s St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday nite…

Pursue God…pursue Him and He will meet you where you are.

The story was direct and right on as the Gov. knew first hand the pain of many in attendance. He lost both of his parents to a terrible auto accident as the result of a drunk driver.

There was a silent but powerful metaphor visible tonite….one of our adult leaders, Todd had placed a table on the stage with a red tablecloth and three large candles that were burning through our time together. Small groups tonite were focused on getting to know each other better…no handouts…no directions other than…spend time together and then pray. Heard good feed back from small group leaders that their time together was useful and good.

so we begin this journey called LENT. Guessing maybe its a new word to you? In the Latin in means (40th) which sums up the 40 day journey starting this day, Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Morning. To help you in that journey check out Journey to the Cross. Each day you will find a devotion that will help you experience the richness of Lent. The theme as we begin is For Reconciliation. We’ve finished our two-week series “Love God; Love Others” with a challenge to our students to make their love for God part of every area of their lives. Our conversation centered around Luke 10:25-28, which reveals that God’s greatest commandment is for us to love him with our heart, soul, strength, and mind.
during our worship time we stepped off with this video from our pal louie giglio. loved the response…one student stood up and shouted…”that’s crazy!” great lead in to our worship set…how great is our God…blessings and new one by kristen stamfil – who you are.

Learning to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength is a lifelong commitment. We encouraged our students to consider the benefits and rewards of obediently loving God and pursuing lives that put love into action. Our love for God ought to connect to every area of life-it isn’t just a “church” thing or a “spiritual” part of life.

here’s some questions to ponder in the week to come based on our study.
How much of our experience as followers of Jesus do you think is based on our feelings, and how much of it is based on our willingness to act or serve or obey even when we don’t feel like it?
What do you think it means to develop a lifestyle of loving God? What would that look like if you pursued that path?
What are some changes you might see in your life as you love God more and more?
