... exists to REACH students to CONNECT them with other Christians, to help them GROW in their faith and to challenge the growing to DISCOVER their Ministry and HONOR God with their life.
In preparation for tomorrow nite ( 9.8.10) showing of To Save A Life – The Movie we’ve set up a special website to help connect students to the powerful message communicated through this great movie. Please pass this post along to your friends. click on the image below to go there to share your thoughts and find more help.
hey all! have a crazy one day event planned next month…road trip to the motor city. details to follow…but here’s a teaser video just to get you thinking…there’s only 10 seats…it will be a day you won’t forget. check it out…
hey…just so you’ll get it on your calendar…we’re hosting Heartsong from Cedarville University next weekend. They’ll be at both morning services sunday and we’re working on a cool youth concert for saturday. tell your friends!
we gathered for the last time of the school year this weekend. lots of energy and all around silliness, but that’s what you get at this time of the year.
most the time tonite was spent sharing stories about what we prayed our summer would look like as we head off in different ways. we watched a video from Nike to set up a conversation about the reality that God offers us many opportunities to engage life and we’re never really sure of the outcome until we live through it. this video is so powerful about how we each have dreams and yet we have to push through the hard work of life to see the outcome. check it out.
we spent some additional time talking about our summer home mission trip – D2S10 coming up in July (get your registration in download here). Students from last years event shared some great stories and also some testimonies of how they saw God show up. A reminder of 1 Timothy 4:12
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
leave a comment as to how you’re going to write the future this summer.
we celebrated the evening with some pizza and a few monsters (thot it was only fair to the send the students home ready to hit the week).
of course we started the evening with several fun games from mrs. brown’s files. so grateful to the creative graphics from our pals atyouth leader stash.
It was a crazy night. we already knew we were going to be light handed because of a lot of end of the school year activites…prom, concerts, etc. but the night was far from boring. first we broke out the new box of finger rockets. check out this video…
the night took a different turn not too much longer after the video was shot when a couple of students, playing harder than they should have, resulted in our having to call the local fire dept. one student had trouble breathing and needed attention. It was the first time we’ve had to seek medical help during a student ministry event. The student was transported to a local hospital and providentially, the student is okay. They have a deep chest wall bruise and will need some time to heal. The student’s mother was in attendance and was able to go with the student.
As the squad left, we gathered and spent some time in prayer for healing and safety as well as forgiveness. It was a God moment.
That event brought a different focus to the rest of the evening. It created some conversation about how sometimes (most of the time) we don’t know what life will present to us and yet we we need to be prepared. That offered a segue to the role all of us, but particularly a young person can play in impacting the world. We’ve got a couple of serving events coming up and wanted to remind the students of how their involvement can leverage the Kingdom.
We watched this video about Greyson Michael Chance an average 6th grade boy and a song he sang at a church talent show. Greyson posted it on his youtube channel and as of this post has had more than 15 million viewers! This video from the Ellen show gives a look at how a young person chasing his talent can become the beginning of something large and impacting. It will be interesting to see what becomes of young Greyson.
we also watched this amazing video from Chris Cole, a skateboarder who tackled an amazing jump by staying at the task. it took Chris 68 attempts to get the jump right. lots of pain in the process, but all necessary to accomplish the task.
we had a great conversation about how we each need to grow where God has planted us and to leverage our talents and resources for the Kingdom. We’ll put that into practice this saturday at the lion’s club building when we help serve breakfast to raise monies to help with adoption legal expenses for a local family. see you @ 7am sharp! contact pastor tom if you need a ride or more details.
Kicked off the night with another of mrs. brown’s amazing games…what a racquet.
We were on week two of our series Don’t Keep Your Friends in the Dark. This week the theme was Extend an Invitation – How can you let their friends know they desperately want them to meet Jesus—without it being awkward?
We used the biblical example of Matthew to encourage and inspire. Matthew was one of the first disciples chosen by Jesus, and after responding to Jesus’ call, he turned around and invited a whole bunch of friends to his house for a banquet with Jesus.
We shared that one of the best ideas to help friends learn more about Jesus is to invite them to an appropriate setting within EVO where they will feel welcome and accepted. Everyone loves being invited to fun, exciting places. Matthew understood this idea and created an opportunity to introduce his friends to Jesus. During small groups we talked about…
ideas for making EVO a friendlier place for non-believing friends
making our homes a place where our friends could hang out and interact with some friends who follow Jesus
How parents can support efforts to have a positive influence on friends?
we used this amazing video to close out the evening…as a reminder that we shouldn’t wait until things are “picture perfect” but rather we should risk inviting others to join us in our journey of faith.
