Wrapup 9.29.10 ~here we go again…

so we’re back at it.  been a while since we’ve been together as a group.  lots of energy to say the least. although there’s a different feel as were on a new nite – wednesday and we had some good food to start our time.

we launched out with a new series called HAPPY.  that ties in with the church-wide campaign that has just stepped off.  We began the night with everyone taking their creative energy and making some placemats for the upcoming boy’s epiphany weekend at indian river juvenile correction facility in massillon.

epiphany is a three-day spiritual formation  retreat that takes place inside a juvenile corrections facility. the placements are a form of “agape” to encourage the boys that there are people on the outside who care about them.  the placemats are always a mind blower.   after the placemets were finished we introduced the adult leaders.  there’s several new faces this year and it was great to hear the excitement of the students as each adult shared who they were and why they were investing their time.

the big idea: was showing that we basically have two choices on how to live life -I can pretend I’m God, or I can trust that God is God and I’m not.  in small group we looked at the Beatitudes from Matt. 5:1-10.  This first week was focused on being happy because we are poor in spirit…and how we need to depend on God for our everything.    great conversations…and we’re thinking the best is yet to come.

Mohican Juvenile Facility Epiphany #6

Several of us from the outpost are heading out on a mission at mohican juvenile corrections facility for an epiphany weekend outreach. the students helped last week making placemats and posters to show Agape (God’s love) to the 30 young men that the team from epiphany of ohio will be serving.

one way folks on the outside can support the weekend is through the 72 prayer vigil. please take a moment and add your name to the list. we’ll print it out and and your name as a link in a prayer chain that will be unveiled on the first day to the young men during a talk that i will give entitled “you are not alone“.

i can not tell you the impact that it has…it is beyond words. on the four other teams i have served on many of the boys begin to cry when the realize that “folks…they don’t even know will be praying for them.” here’s a post from the weekend in november.

i pray you’ll be blessed.

we hosted a guest worship leader, jeremy sharp. jeremy was the worship leader on the epiphany weekend at mohican juvenile correctional facility this past week end. jeremy has a great heart and an amazing talent. ( check out his myspace) After the worship set Jeremy and I talked about our weekend experience having served on Epiphany. I borrowed the pray vigil chain from the weekend to try and give our students a deeper sense of what a simple act of “agape” can do for someone. on this epiphany weekend, the prayer vigil was some 1, 688 links long. i had the students unroll it and they had to spiral around the room three times with all the students and adults helping to hold and they still didn’t get through half of it. we ended our time by circling up around jeremy and praying him up and out.
