It was a crazy night. we already knew we were going to be light handed because of a lot of end of the school year activites…prom, concerts, etc. but the night was far from boring. first we broke out the new box of finger rockets. check out this video…
the night took a different turn not too much longer after the video was shot when a couple of students, playing harder than they should have, resulted in our having to call the local fire dept. one student had trouble breathing
and needed attention. It was the first time we’ve had to seek medical help during a student ministry event. The student was transported to a local hospital and providentially, the student is okay. They have a deep chest wall bruise and will need some time to heal. The student’s mother was in attendance and was able to go with the student.
As the squad left, we gathered and spent some time in prayer for healing and safety as well as forgiveness. It was a God moment.
That event brought a different focus to the rest of the evening. It created some conversation about how sometimes (most of the time) we don’t know what life will present to us and yet we we need to be prepared. That offered a segue to the role all of us, but particularly a young person can play in impacting the world. We’ve got a couple of serving events coming up and wanted to remind the students of how their involvement can leverage the Kingdom.
We watched this video about Greyson Michael Chance an average 6th grade boy and a song he sang at a church talent show. Greyson posted it on his youtube channel and as of this post has had more than 15 million viewers! This video from the Ellen show gives a look at how a young person chasing his talent can become the beginning of something large and impacting. It will be interesting to see what becomes of young Greyson.
we also watched this amazing video from Chris Cole, a skateboarder who tackled an amazing jump by staying at the task. it took Chris 68 attempts to get the jump right. lots of pain in the process, but all necessary to accomplish the task.
we had a great conversation about how we each need to grow where God has planted us and to leverage our talents and resources for the Kingdom. We’ll put that into practice this saturday at the lion’s club building when we help serve breakfast to raise monies to help with adoption legal expenses for a local family. see you @ 7am sharp! contact pastor tom if you need a ride or more details.
